How To Prep For Your Lash Appointment

Many of my models are close friends & family, making it easier for us to talk more than usual or take snack breaks in between doing each eye. Next thing I know, it's dark out by the time I finish a whole set! I was worried I was never going to improve on speed or time, but then I'd remind myself, "oh yeah, I did use the bathroom" or "we did stop for an hour to grab a bite". I told myself not to be so hard on myself. Instead, I challenged myself. Preparing for your appointment is essential, lash appointments can range from 1-4 hours long & on occasion, even longer. By applying the following tips, your appointment will not only have a better outcome, but you will also have made the most out of your money.
1. Shower before-hand. After your appointment, you will not be able to apply makeup or get your lash extensions wet for the next 24-48 hours, this includes high condensation rooms, such as saunas. By staying away from water & steam, the glue will cure & fully bond to your natural lashes, ensuring maximum retention.
2. Remove all your makeup. I prefer the whole face to be makeup-free to avoid any discomfort or difficulties during the procedure, but if the thought of going barefaced makes you uncomfortable, face & brow makeup is acceptable but no eye makeup. Please avoid using a lash curler before your appointment as well; we will need to work with the natural curl of your eyelashes. By doing this step, we'll be able to save more time for application & less on removing & cleansing.
3. Dress comfortably. You'll want to dress in something comfortable enough to sleep in or less restricted since you'll be lying down for a couple of hours with little chance to move around. Your lash tech most likely has the room set to a specific temperature for our glue to work correctly, so bring a sweater or light jacket in case you get cold throughout the process. For maximum comfort, avoid putting your hair up in a bun or ponytail.
4. Do not drink caffeine. Try to avoid caffeine 3 hours before your scheduled appointment. Drinking coffee can cause your eyes to flutter & twitch; this can affect the speed of the application process, which can result in a set that doesn't look as full as you wish. Skip the coffee & take the lash nap instead!
5. Arrive on time. Being roughly 5 minutes late can affect your lash set outcome, think about it. If applying one classic extension to one natural lash takes, let's say, approximately 30 seconds. That would be10 lash extensions less for the set your paying. There's nothing worse than rushing in & arriving stressed & flustered, especially if this is your first time getting eyelash extensions. This appointment truly is a time to sit back & relax! It also helps in keeping time for the following clients' appointments. Please respect our time & others by arriving no more than 5 minutes early to your appointment.
6. Use the bathroom. I know it sounds silly, but it's important. Although your lash tech will allow you to go mid-appointment instead of "holding it", just remember that you'll be lying down for the next 2-3 hours! And when I had mentioned before, would you rather lose 3-5 minutes for a bathroom break or gain 10-20 more lashes from being prepared ahead of time?
7. Turn off your cell phone. Not only is your lash tech using sharp objects around your delicate eye area, but it's also hard to ignore it when it rings. It may even urge you to open your eyes out of habit. Enjoy your lash nap without being disturbed & please set your phone onto silent mode.
I hope the next time you have an appointment, you will use this post as a reference to make your time worthwhile. Most importantly, that you enjoy your eyelash extension experience.
