Do I Tip My Beauty Technician?

Sometimes, I still question whether or not I should be accepting a client's tip, or often I get asked, "how much should I tip my technician?"
So let's be real, yes. It would be best if you tipped after your appointment, as this is a service. We provide you with our undivided attention, spending long periods of sitting in one place, & give you nothing but our best work. We all know what it's like to work hard. Try to tell me that after all that, it wouldn't be greatly appreciated to show how much you enjoyed someone's work & company. But also, it doesn't mean that we should expect a tip after each & every appointment. I typically tip my beauty technician 15%-30% depending on service & quality.
Having your lashes & brows done is a luxury. Meaning if you can't afford it, you usually wouldn't get it. As a former college student, I understand that sometimes people can't provide a 15%-20% tip on top of an already high-cost service. When a client cannot tip or decides not to, we shouldn't look down on them, "non-tippers." If you are unhappy, one way to avoid this is to adjust your prices to something your happy to receive without tips because, again, this is a service.
Now that we understand that tips should be appreciated & not expected don't be discouraged if someone doesn't tip you. It doesn't necessarily mean they don't enjoy your work, though this could be one of many different reasons. But if you are curious, try creating a poll or somewhere to post a review where they can speak about their experience honestly. Take this as a learning curve! Remember, when there are non-tippers, there are the OVER-tippers. Like other beauty techs, someone who understands the struggle will be more than happy to provide a good tip!
Good luck to all you beautiful people & businesses out there! I wish nothing but success for you. 💜
Always,
